Disturbed by the explanation for rape incidents, “boys will be boys” by state official Mulayam Singh Yadav and politicians blaming women for their clothing, the #dmFreeWomen movement was launched. These startling statements show the deep-rooted misogynistic mind-set of India. Clothing is how we express our selves, it is part of who we are and who we want to be. Rather than blaming the victim, education is vital for young boys to raise consciousness for their actions and for girls to understand that silence is not the solution.
Our movement not only emphasize the importance of women’s equality, women’s right is part of human rights hence the call for every individual’s freedom and equality. We call for freedom and equality to empower humanity.
