‘Free to Be’ is a campaign to promote equality, to let people have choices to be free and encompass their own unique self. Everyone has his or her own personal definition of freedom. However, freedom is not just about the right to do whatever one wants – it is a right to have equal and just opportunities to live, love and be happy.
On May 29th, 2015, Dhillon Marty Foundation conducted a flash mob in Tokyo’s iconic Shibuya Crossing as a reminder that equality and freedom is for everyone. Over 130 participants lent their support. Thank you to each and every one of you that were part of it.
But the ‘Free To Be’ message should not end there.
We plan to have #FreetoBe events all over the world to amplify the voice for equality on a global scale. Please contact us if you would like to organize a #FreetoBe event in your city.
OUR AIM
1. Encourage you to reflect if your current actions and choices match with your core values
2. Share diverse voices to highlight and celebrate our uniqueness
‘Free to Be’ began as a protest of violence against women in India. After a horrible incident on December 16th of 2012, when a young woman was gang-raped in a moving bus, we couldn’t stay silent. Today, ‘Free to Be’ campaign has evolved to support equality and freedom for every individual that suffers from oppression and injustice. We are NOT promoting absolute freedom with reckless actions; we are NOT supporting freedom for deeds that may hurt the environment and people living in it. Instead, we hope to make it possible for people to have an equal opportunity to basic human rights. In modern society, each and every person must have freedom to embrace their unique qualities, to show their love, to choose their path and who they want to be, and to be happy. It is a right to be YOU. ‘Free to Be’ advocates the end of stereotypes and unjust social roles that society instills us with. We advocate responsible freedom, one that does not violate the freedom of others. Every generation is responsible to create and leave a world where equality and freedom are not privileges but rights of all.
